Wipro’s Latest High-Profile Departure: CTO Subha Tatavarti Resigns
In a move that has sent shockwaves through the tech industry, Wipro’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Subha Tatavarti has resigned from her position, effective August 16, 2024. This marks the fourth senior executive to leave the company since Srini Pallia took over as CEO in April.
Tatavarti, who joined Wipro in 2021 under former CEO Thierry Delaporte, is the latest in a string of senior executives to depart the company. Her resignation comes on the heels of other key exits, including Chief Delivery Officer Ajit Mahale, former COO Amit Choudhary, and former head of APMEA Anis Chenchah. All of these executives were part of Delaporte’s team.
Wipro’s restructuring under Pallia
Wipro has been undergoing a significant restructuring under Pallia, aiming to address the talent drain that began during Delaporte’s tenure. The company has faced over 20 senior departures in the past two years, with the most notable being former CFO Jatin Dalal’s move to rival Cognizant. Dalal, along with another senior healthcare vertical head who also joined Cognizant, was sued by Wipro for breaching the non-compete agreement. However, both parties settled the lawsuits last month.
Wipro’s talent drain
Tatavarti’s resignation letter, which was included in an exchange filing, was brief and to the point. “Hi Srini, I am resigning from the post of CTO, Wipro effective August 16th. Good luck with your journey. Thanks,” she wrote.

The departure of Tatavarti is a significant blow to Wipro, which has been struggling to retain top talent. The company’s restructuring efforts under Pallia are aimed at addressing this issue, but it remains to be seen how effective these efforts will be.
Wipro’s future under Pallia
As the tech industry continues to evolve, Wipro’s ability to retain top talent will be crucial to its success. The company’s future under Pallia’s leadership is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the departure of Subha Tatavarti is a significant setback.
